Do you ever dream about being a fashion designer? Eva Vas of Opinion Atelier eloquently opens up about why she became a designer and what inspires her to continue creating her fashionable designs.  With fabrics meticulously chosen and sourced from around the world, and grasping inspiration from film, Opinion Atelier calls Saskatoon home.

The Opinion Atelier concept store is situated in the heart of the Riversdale district. The designs are classic and playful, ranging from simple silk dresses to structured tweed jackets.  But Opinion Atelier offers more than just fashionable designs, they offer an 'opinion' and help to turn every day fashion into an adventure with personalized one-on-one style advice.

SFDF is very excited to welcome Opinion Atelier to the 2015 Festival! Continue reading below to learn more about what inspires the lovely designer behind the brand, Eva Vas.

Why did you decide to become a fashion designer?

I've always loved sketching, sewing and collecting buttons and exotic fabrics. After completing fashion school in my hometown of Prague, Czech Republic, I moved to London, England where I fell in love with the both traditional English tailoring and small, eclectic shops. The beautiful patterns and high-end materials used by Saville Road tailors as well as Portobello flea markets were my inspiration and taught  me that fashion needs to be  dynamic!

What is your favourite part about being a fashion designer?

I love it all! Being a fashion designer and advisor is an adventure.

What was the first item you ever sewed?

It was a simple black dress, and dresses are still my favourite thing to design today!

Who is your favorite fashion designer, why?

I don't have a favourite designer…I'm far more inspired by fashion in film, and the people I see on the street every day.

What are your inspirations around your designs?

Italy, and specifically old Italian movies like La Dolce Vita. I love when a pattern adds colour to your complexion and the feel of high-quality fabric makes your day.

Where do you source your materials and fabrics?

All over, from locations as far apart as Rome and San Francisco.

What are you most excited about during the Saskatoon Fashion & Design Festival?

I'm looking forward to expressing my love for Italian fashion at the Friday night show at Bottega. I can't wait to meet all kinds of ladies at the River landing on Sunday and offer fashion advice. If you have any favourite pieces, please bring them by and we can discuss it! We are also giving away prizes, including a make-over and photo shoot!

What are your plans for the future?

Continue working every day to create timeless patterns and garments you can feel great in.

What are 3 words you would use to describe your line?

Feminine, Inspirational, Playful!

Thanks to Eva Vas for generously taking the time to answer our questions. We look forward to viewing the 2015 designs on the evening of Friday June 5th at Bottega Trattoria, and at River Landing on Sunday June 7th. Also, visit the concept store located at 1313 Ave D South in Saskatoon.
