SFDF Day Two: Meet the Designers & Boutiques

By Claire Underhill, Fashion Director

Don’t take those heels off just yet, the fun continues as we enter into Day Two (Sunday, August 27, 2017) of the Saskatoon Fashion and Design Festival. As fall fashion fast approaches, six local designers and boutiques will be showcasing their newest collections on Sunday, and I’m here to provide our official sneak peek!

Siwinikan Designs

Local Designer Farrah Siwinikan is known for being true to her roots in her design aesthetic, and we are loving it. Picture natural fibres and big patterns mixed with traditional Indigenous garb, all with a modern twist. This designer has pure craftsmanship, and it shows in her tailored jackets and unique linings on vests, dresses and outerwear. Her dedication to culture is what drives her fashion line, and we can’t wait to see what she will be bringing to the runway for another year at SFDF.

The Sandbox in the City

Although this store originated in Waskesiu Lake, Saskatchewan, don’t let lake vibes fool you - this local haven has everything your inner fashionista needs, and Samantha Carnduff of The Sandbox in the City will be sure to deliver at SFDF. Take one look at Samantha, and you’ll know exactly what I mean - this girl slays in her own personal fashion choices, which only translates exceptionally well into her styling at the store. Think rocker babe with feminine tailoring, or classical girly with a contemporary edge. For the ladies who are looking for that hidden gem in Saskatoon, hit up The Sandbox in the City!

Missie & Tifé Bridal Accessories

Look out Saskatoon, this newbie to SFDF is ready to hit the runway! Missie & Tifé Bridal Accessories will be introducing their handmade luxury bridal hair and jewelry accessories at SFDF this year, and we couldn’t be more excited to have a bridal collection! As a reformed wedding planner myself, and self-proclaimed “crow”, I still get awe-struck by pretty and shiny things. From hair combs to necklace pendants, Sola, designer for Missie & Tifé has a vision for inspiring new brides to embrace luxury accessories. There may not be a man in sight, but who says you can’t walk around your apartment in a pretty handmade birdcage veil!

ELEVEN03

Luke and Logan of ELEVEN03 are the epitome of badassery. Not just your average hoodie or flannel shirt, these guys offer a feeling to their clothes that makes me want to rebel against the norm, or cruise around with the top down listening to punk music. With their bold style in a 90s grunge fashion, ELEVEN03 will be featuring their newest collection “LOW LIFE” which details cut-off hoodies, deconstructed flannels, and their not-so-classic tees and sweatshirts. Want to be the illest person on the street? Look no further, ELEVEN03 is where it’s at.

Cedar and Vine

Swoon, my heart! Jo Stewart, designer for Cedar and Vine, crafts her pieces by keeping in mind natural beauty in a soft and feminine manner. Ethereal yet whimsical, and exceptionally designed to make you think you’ve just had a spiritual connection to your wardrobe. Jo’s newest designs will feature linen dresses, turtleneck crop tops, and buttoned shirts inspired to make you want to hop in your car and head to the nearest meadow fit to be in The Sound of Music. If that’s not enough, Jo is the sweetest person ever, so get in line, you’re gonna want to be her new best friend!

Goldie’s General Store

Not just a one-trick pony, this local shop curated by Darby Sutherland and Christie Peters has it all, but puts a major emphasis on sustainable fashions and vintage pieces. With their “no rules” attitude, they believe that individualism and personal fashion expression is what’s beautiful, and in tow, offer pieces they personally love. At SFDF they will be presenting their fall/winter collection which will include vintage furs, leathers and wools, but don’t think this collection is all about looking fancy- their focus is on styling these luxury items in a casual and cool, everyday look - which we are totally into!

Don't have tickets? Well its time to change that. Get yours below and I suggest VIP as I'm all about that swag!
