REVAMP(ED)

By: Madison Prosofsky, creator of The proGLAM

The designers at SFDF this weekend will no doubt bring hot fire looks to the runway, but what about the model prep that happens behind the scenes? This year SFDF partnered with Revamp Salon Company to give you this year's effortless Cara Delevingne inspired hairstyle, and I got to spend some time with the Revamp team and chat with owner Celene Dupuis about all things hair.

Q: Tell us a little bit about Revamp!

CD: Revamp has been in business just shy of 3 years. We strive to create an environmentally friendly workplace where fashion meets education. All of our stylists attend a minimum of 6 educational classes a year, plus we provide 4 Revamp Academy classes per year to make sure our stylists are as up to date as possible! With 3 Redken Educators on staff we work as a team, committed to creating a great experience, maintaining the health of the hair, and striving to make our guests feel like the best version of themselves.

We were Saskatoon's first Green Circle Salon - a recycling program that saves 95% of the waste used in the salon. This includes hair clippings (used to create oil booms to clean up oil spills) leftover colour is recycled (instead of going back into our lakes and rivers), foils and colour packaging, and almost anything and everything else. Our salon literally has almost no garbage! We only use product lines that don't test on animals, and even carry Evo, a vegan line for the very enviro-conscious person. This industry isn't just a job for us, it's a lifestyle. We understand the importance of how our job directly effects how people feel about themselves. We are honoured and privileged to help you feel ready to tackle all the biggest moments in your life!

Q: How do fashion trends influence hair trends?

CD: Fashion and hair are intertwined; what we see on the runway dictates what we will be seeing for hair. Several seasons ago we saw a lot of structured fabric and geometrical designs which led to structured bobs, bold bangs, very Vidal Sassoon. The past few years have had softer fabrics and design which has lead to softer looks trending with soft texture and color.

Q: Why is it important for Revamp to be a part of Runway 2017?

CD: We have a love for our city and we love being on broadway in the heart of Saskatoon's trendiest area! We gain inspiration from many places but street style has always been something that has inspired many artists and designers around the world. We wanted to lend our talents to the process of creating moving art through fashion.

Q: What hair trends can we expect to see in the upcoming fall/winter season?

CD: We are seeing a mixture of looks; natural hair is a big trend for 2018. Redken's NBD (No blow dry) Cream is perfect to create this look, by applying and letting hair dry with its natural texture. We're also seeing the acid hair trend featuring electric bold colours, anything goes as long as it's well cared for! Evo Fabulouso makes custom coloured conditioners which help keep hair looking fresh in between colors. We are also seeing warmer tones make their way back to begin replacing the grey hair trend. Golds and amber hues will take centre stage this winter and spring.

Q: Any pro-tips for readers who want to create this year’s Runway hair at home?

CD: It's all about the prep, if you want your hair to last you have to support the style with prep! Begin with Redken's Pillowproof blow dry spray to protect hair and help it dry faster, add Guts 10 volumizing mousse from roots to ends to help hold curl. Blow dry. Take large sections and wrap hair away from the face leaving the ends out for a more undone feel. Shake hair out and use Redken's Windblown 05 Dry Finishing Spray for the perfect undone texture!

A very big thank you goes to the team at Revamp for giving me the model treatment, as well as Nicole Romanoff for the amazing photos!
