SFDF Day One: Buckle Up Babes!

by Claire Underhill, Fashion Director

Nothing screams decadent like hosting a fashion show in one of Saskatoon’s most iconic venues, the Delta Bessborough. This venue will mark as our host venue for its second year, and we are thrilled to be back in the castle for Saskatoon Fashion and Design Festival. This Saturday, August 26, 2017 will be presenting SFDF Runway featuring five amazing sets, including local designers, retailers and a rad Wearable Art Collection by SWAG: SK Wearable Art Collection. Whether you’re into looking like a hardcore rocker babe, or appreciate the finer delicate details, this Runway Show will have it all for you! Now, allow me to introduce our starting lineup…

This up and coming local designer is fresh out of the gate, and will be premiering her collection at SFDF this year for the first time! Ashnita Mehjabeen focuses on designing unique pieces that are sure to make you the showstopper at your next cocktail party. But, she doesn’t just stop at creating garments for you party-goers, she tangos her pretty frills & lace with fresh streetwear looks for those wanting that extra edge during the day.

Whether you’re into bohemian inspired frocks, structured blazers with a hint of sass, or date night outfits fit for Carrie Bradshaw, this shop has got it! Featuring their 2017 Fall Collections, this local retailer is all about encouraging our YXE women to be creative in their personal fashion choices, but if you’re looking for a little help in the creativity department, the girls of White Dahlia by Dutch offer a personalized service of styling advice too!

Scott and Kim, Husband and Wife, and Founders of Authentic Brave Apparel. These two aren’t just about providing slick clothing to the public (although that’s a huge bonus!), they also have a unique brand that is based around promoting positive affirmations, inspiration, and hope. This dynamic duo not only advocates for a powerful message through their clothing, but elevates your everyday basic tee or sweater to a new level of cool.

Melissa Squire

The girl who’s become a Saskatoon legend for her rockabilly style and rocker babe attitude, Melissa Squire is a fashion show veteran, and constant supporter of SFDF! From wildly patterned dresses to up-cycled rubber accessories, this local designer promotes full on body positivity and is destined to give you epic confidence when you put on one of her dresses. But, she doesn’t just stop at killer frocks for women, she also designs men’s, and children’s clothes too! It’s always a good time in Squire City, so buckle up those biker boots cause she’s gonna give you a show!

We can’t wait to see you all on Saturday, August 26th for a fabulous night of promoting local talent, embracing our community of retailers, and maybe a few cocktails in between.
