As a little girl, I spent much of my childhood editing and correcting fashion magazines as a young editor in the making. Much like Ashnita Mehjabeen or her self titled fashion label, she grew up adding embellishments to her clothing to add that extra element of design. Although she considers herself a designer now, from a young age, she was always truly designing. Ashnita takes inspiration from her surroundings, including the sunsets of Saskatchewan to the decorative wedding accessories that adorn the beautiful brides in India. Take one look at Ashnita’s collection and you’ll see that her collections are stunning mix of authentic Indian designs with a modern and elegant twist.
From party dresses to special frocks, Ashnita’s collection has been perfectly curated to accommodate young women looking to make a splash at their next event.
Being a Bangladesh designer, Ashnita takes inspiration from Indian designers such as Manish Malhotra and Sabyasachi Mukherjee. Get on your Google ladies and gents, because these two special events designers… are amazing. Like holy, I’m inspired too! Move over Jimmy Choo, I’ve found my new obsession.
As a second-time applicant for Saskatoon Fashion & Design Festival, Ashnita believes that as “an emerging designer…hard work pays off” and “I chose to participate [with SFDF] as I can reach more people (and other designers) who appreciate my work, and the audience is so inspiring. SFDF is my favourite platform to promote [my brand]”.
And…..*Cue the tears rolling down my face*
